Cream Of Onion Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium onions, sliced
    1/4 lb. butter
    1/2 c. flour
    1 to 1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    8 c. chicken stock or 8 c. water
    1 2/3 c. cream
    French bread
    Swiss cheese, sliced
Preparation
    Saute onions in butter until tender.
    Blend in flour, salt and pepper.
    Cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
    Gradually stir in chicken base or water.
    Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
    Stir in cream just before serving.
    Put in ovenproof bowls.
    Add 1 slice toasted French bread.
    Top with Swiss cheese.
    Bake until cheese is melted.
