1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Cream butter.
Add sugar gradually; cream well.
Add eggs and stir.
Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda and nutmeg.
Add to sugar/butter mixture, alternate with buttermilk and mix well.
Pour batter into two 9-inch layer pans.
Sprinkle tops of cake batter with sugar and nutmeg.
Bake 35 minutes or until done at 350\u00b0.
No frosting necessary.
The sugar and nutmeg make a sweet topping.
