War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 c. raisins, chopped
1 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
1 t. cinnamon
1/8 t. cloves
Pinch of salt
1 t. baking soda
2 c. flour

Preparation

Put sugar, raisins, water, shortening, cinnamon, cloves and salt in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes. Cool. Add baking soda and flour. Mix well. Place in 8-inch square pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
