Ingredients

1 qt. blackberries
1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/4 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. milk
Preparation

In a large saucepan over medium heat, heat blackberries, 1 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water to boiling.
Meanwhile in a medium bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons sugar.
With a pastry blender or 2 knives used scissor fashion, cut in shortening until it is like coarse crumbs.
With fork, lightly mix in milk to form soft dough.
Drop dough by tablespoon into boiling fruit. Simmer dumplings, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
Cover and simmer 10 minutes longer.
Makes 6 servings.
