Killed Lettuce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. summer leaf lettuce
    8 pencil onions or 2 large yellow onions, sliced thinly
    4 heaping Tbsp. bacon grease
    1 c. evaporated milk (undiluted)
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    salt
    sugar
Preparation
    In large bowl, tear lettuce into bite-size pieces.
    Mix with onions.
    Heat together in small frying pan the grease, milk, vinegar, salt and sugar.
    Do not let boil.
    Cool slightly.
    Pour over lettuce.
    Amount of sugar depends on taste; I use about 1 tablespoon.
