Squash Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. squash, sliced (3 1/2 c.)
    1 egg, beaten
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. oleo, melted
    1/2 c. bread crumbs or Pepperidge Farm mix
    1 c. grated cheese
    1 (8 oz.) can sliced water chestnuts (optional)
Preparation
    Cook squash, onion and salt in water until well done; drain. Add egg and butter.
    Add water chestnuts.
    Put in greased casserole in layers; make layer of squash mixture, layer of bread crumbs or stuffing and layer of cheese.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until hot throughout and bubbly.
    Makes 4 servings.
