Elegant Beef Burgundy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef, cut up in small pieces
    4 medium raw onions, quartered
    10 large fresh carrots, cut in half
    1/2 tsp. each: salt, pepper, garlic powder and thyme
    1 bay leaf
    1/2 bottle Burgundy
    1 c. black coffee
    1 c. fresh mushrooms, sliced
    1 stick margarine or butter
    8 oz. dry sherry
Preparation
    Brown the beef in the margarine or butter in a large heavy stock pot.
    Add onions, carrots, celery and water to cover the meat.
    Add seasonings, coffee and Burgundy.
    Cover and cook over medium heat for 2 hours.
    Add the mushrooms and the sherry.
    Cook 15 minutes longer; serve over noodles.
