Southern Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. Crisco
    1/2 c. cake flour
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 c. buttermilk
Preparation
Preheat oven to 450\u00b0. In large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, then sift. Using fingertips, rub butter and Crisco into dry ingredients until mix appears like crumbs. Make a well in center; pour in chilled buttermilk. Stir just until dough comes together. Dough will be very sticky. Turn dough onto floured surface; dust top with flour and gently fold dough over on itself 5 or 6 times. Press into a 1-inch thick round. Cut out biscuits with a 2-inch cutter, being sure to push straight down through the dough. Give the cutter a twist when you get to the bottom. Place biscuits on baking sheet so that they just touch. Reform scrap dough. Working it as little as possible and continue cutting. Press thumb in center of each biscuit to make a slight indentation. Bake until biscuits are tall and light gold on top, 15 to 20 minutes.
