New England Boiled Dinner - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. well-trimmed corned beef brisket or round
    6 medium carrots
    1 small onion, cut into fourths
    3 potatoes, cut into halves
    1 clove garlic, crushed
    6 small onions
    1 small head green cabbage, cut into 6 wedges
    3 cubed turnips (optional)
Preparation
    Pour enough
    cold
    water
    on
    corned beef in Dutch oven just to cover.
    Add
    1
    small
    onion, cut into fourths and the garlic. Heat to boiling; reduce heat.
    Cover and simmer until beef is almost
    tender,
    about 1 hour and 4 minutes.
    Skim fat from broth. Add the 6 small onions, the carrots, potatoes and turnips.
    Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.\tRemove beef;
    keep warm.
    Add cabbage.
    Heat
    to\tboiling;
    reduce heat.\tSimmer uncovered until vegetables
    are
    tender,
    about
    15
    minutes. Serves 6.
