Pfeffernuss - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. honey
    2 c. sour milk
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    2 tsp. ginger
    2 tsp. allspice
    2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sorghum
    2 tsp. ground cloves
    3 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/2 tsp. anise
    1/4 tsp. salt
    approximately 5 lb. flour
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients except flour.
    Add enough flour, a bit at a time, to make a very stiff dough.
    Let stand overnight.
    Roll into ropes about 1/2 to 3/4-inch in diameter.
    Cut into 1/2 to 3/4-inch pieces.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 until golden brown.
