Ingredients

4 1/2 c. flour
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
2 c. buttermilk
melted butter
sliced ham
Preparation

Combine first 5 ingredients.
Mix well.
Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in water.
Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to flour mixture, mixing well. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (about 8 to 10 minutes). Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and brush with melted butter.
Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter and place 1/2-inch apart on greased baking dish.
Fill with sliced ham.
Top each with a second biscuit. Bake at 400\u00b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
Yields about 3 dozen.
