Cinnamon Date Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 oz. pitted dates
    3/4 c. plus 3 Tbsp. sugar
    3/4 tsp. vanilla
    1 3/4 c. flour
    3/4 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 lb. butter (room temperature)
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. milk
Preparation
    Combine dates, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 cup water in saucepan.
    Simmer until dates are soft, about 3 minutes.
    Stir in 1/4 teaspoon vanilla.
    Combine flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.
    Beat 3/4 cup sugar into butter, then egg, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and finally the flour mixture.
    Wrap and chill.
    Between 2 sheets of wax paper, roll out half the dough to a 9-inch square and put into a buttered 9-inch pan.
    Spread with dates.
    Roll out remaining dough and put on top.
    Press edges with fork and vent. Brush with milk and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes or until golden.
    Cool; cut into bars.
