Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 c. sifted flour (more or less)
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 egg
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    1/4 c. lukewarm water
Preparation
    Scald milk; add shortening to milk and stir until dissolved. Add sugar. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water, then add to mixture. Add 1 cup of flour to mixture.
    Add egg and remaining flour; knead and roll out, then cut.
    Cook in hot shortening.
