Caramel Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 stick oleo
    3/4 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Melt 1/2 cup of sugar in an iron skillet slowly until brown and runny.
    Mix egg, oleo and remaining sugar with milk in a large saucepan.
    Cook over low heat until oleo melts.
    Turn heat to medium and add browned sugar.
    Cook to soft ball stage (238\u00b0). Remove from heat.
    Cool slightly.
    Add vanilla.
    Beat until spreading consistency.
    If icing gets too thick, add a little milk.
    This covers a 2-layer cake.
