Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. pickling cucumbers, sliced
    2 sliced onions
    1/2 c. coarse salt
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. cider vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Cover cucumbers, onions and salt with cold water. Set for 3 hours.
    (Be sure to use glass or plastic bowl.)
    Mix the remaining ingredients in a large saucepan. Simmer for 1/2 hour. Drain water from cucumbers. Place cucumbers in jars and top with hot liquid. Best if you wait a month before eating.
