Brown Bread From Boston - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. raisins
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    4 tsp. firmly packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. molasses
    1 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking soda
    2 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Combine raisins and water in a small bowl; set aside to cool. Combine brown sugar, shortening, egg and molasses; beat well. Stir in salt, baking soda, flour and raisin mixture.
    Stir in nuts.
    Spoon into 4 greased 16 ounce cans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour or until done.
    Cool slightly before removing from cans. Yield: 4 small loaves.
