Raisin-Spice Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2/3 c. melted shortening
    2 1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 rounded tsp. soda
    1 Tbsp. allspice
    3 Tbsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 c. flour
    1 1/2 c. raisins
    1 c. nuts
Preparation
    Combine buttermilk and soda.
    To the 2 cups sugar add the melted shortening, spice and vanilla.
    Alternately add the combined milk, soda and flour to the sugar mixture.
    Mix well after each addition.
    Add raisins and nuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until well browned, about 30 minutes.
    Test with a toothpick.
    Bake in a 9 x 13-inch greased pan.
    Serve with whipped cream, if desired.
