Joe'S Chuck Roast - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (3 to 4 lb.) 2-inch thick bone-in or boneless chuck or venison
    1/2 c. flour
    2 onions, chopped
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    4 c. water or beef broth (not bouillon)
    1/4 c. vinegar
    1/2 c. brewed black coffee
    scant 1/4 tsp. allspice
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 pkg. French's brown gravy mix
    20 to 30 button mushrooms or wild mushrooms
Preparation
    Flour both sides of chuck; brown well in small amount of oil. Add water, onions, garlic, vinegar, coffee, allspice, salt and pepper.
    Bring to simmer and cook 4 hours or until very tender. Add brown gravy mix (mixed with 1/2 cup cold water).
    Simmer for 10 minutes more.
    Add mushrooms; simmer 10 minutes until cooked through.
    Great with
    steamed green beans and mashed potatoes.
