Grandma Farnen'S Homemade Ketchup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 lb. tomatoes (1 peck)
    1 1/2 c. vinegar
    3 c. sugar
    1/4 c. salt
    1 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. pepper
    dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
    1 Tbsp. pickling spices (in small cheesecloth bag to be removed after cooking)
Preparation
    Core and quarter the tomatoes. Cook until soft. Put in sack to drain (pillowcase is fine) and hang for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Put through sieve. Add the remaining ingredients.
    Cook 8 minutes and put in bottles.
    (Old ketchup bottles are great; they will still seal.)
    Thicken with cornstarch if too thin.
