Crystallized Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers
    2 c. lime
    small box alum
    small box ginger
    5 lb. sugar
    3 pt. vinegar
    3 tsp. pickling spice
Preparation
    Wash and slice cucumbers. Soak in 2 gallons water with 2 cups lime 24 hours. Wash and put in 2 gallons water with small box of alum for 24 hours. Wash and soak in 2 gallons water with small box ginger for 6 hours. Do not wash. Make a syrup of sugar, vinegar and 3 teaspoons pickling spice.
    Let stand in syrup 4 hours. Boil 1 hour and put in sterilized jars.
