Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced cucumbers
    6 medium onions
    1/3 c. canning salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers, onions and canning salt.
    Cover with ice, let set 3 hours.
    Drain juice from cucumbers.
    Combine sugar, vinegar and spices and bring to a boil.
    Boil another 5 minutes. Pack in hot sterilized jars; seal.
    Makes about 6 pints.
