Dove Or Quail - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 doves or 9 quail
    salt and pepper
    1/2 c. water
    juice of 1 lemon
    bacon drippings
Preparation
    Clean birds and split them down the back.
    Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    Brown in bacon drippings in a heavy skillet for 20 minutes, turning frequently.
    Add lemon juice and water; cover and bake at 350\u00b0 for about 45 minutes or until tender.
    Baste frequently during baking, adding water, if necessary, to prevent sticking to the pan.
    Serves 2.
