Maui Onion Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. maui or sweet onions (vidalia)
    1/4 lb. butter
    2 oz. red wine
    1/2 bay leaf
    1 qt. beef stock
    4 slices toasted French bread
    Parmesan cheese
Preparation
    Saute 1 pound Maui or sweet onions, thinly sliced, in 1/4 pound butter until golden brown.
    Add red wine, bay leaf and beef stock. Bring to boil and simmer 20 minutes.
    Pour into 4 ovenproof soup bowls.
    Place 1 thin slice of toasted French bread on top and cover with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
    Place in oven and broil until bubbly and browned.
