Ingredients

2 c. dried apples (not evaporated apples)
3 c. water
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. Crisco
1/3 to 1/2 c. milk
Preparation

Put water and apples in a 3-quart saucepan and cook on medium high heat until apples are falling apart.
Add more water, if needed, but don't leave very juicy.
Mash apples.
Mix spices and sugar; add to apples.
Set aside to cool.
