Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    30 cucumbers, sliced thin (use skinny cucumbers)
    1 doz. onions, sliced thin
    2 lb. light brown sugar
    1 qt. cider vinegar
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    2 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Mix cucumbers and onions together.
    Sprinkle handful of salt on 1/4 thick layers.
    Let stand overnight.
    Drain and squeeze out water.
    Mix together brown sugar, vinegar and seasonings.
    Heat on stove.
    Add cucumbers to hot brine.
    Simmer 20 to 30 minutes.
    Do not boil.
    Put into sterilized jars, about 6 pints.
