Spanish Rice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. bacon
    2 onions, sliced
    1 large can tomatoes in puree
    2 bay leaves
    1 tsp. sugar
    2 large green peppers
    1 lb. white rice
Preparation
    Cook rice according to directions and save; cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp.
    Remove from pan; drain off all but about 4 tablespoons bacon drippings and then saute onions and peppers until tender.
    Add crushed tomatoes, bay leaves and sugar; simmer about 1/2 hour.
