Pfeffernuss Drops - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1/2 tsp. ground cardamon
    1/4 c. candied orange rind, finely chopped
    1 1/4 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    red and green candied cherries
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. ground cloves
    1/2 tsp. anise seed, crushed
    1/4 c. candied citron, finely chopped
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 egg
    1 tsp. milk
Preparation
    Sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cloves and pepper.
    Stir in anise seed, cardamon, citron and orange rind until well mixed; set aside.
    Beat butter and 1 cup confectioners sugar until well mixed.
    Beat in egg.
    Add flour mixture just until blended.
    Chill overnight, or until firm enough to handle.
    Roll dough (about 1 teaspoon) at a time into small balls.
    Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
    Top each with a piece of candied cherry.
    Stir milk into remaining 1/4 cup confectioners sugar until smooth.
    Drizzle very lightly over top of each cookie.
    Bake in moderate oven at 350\u00b0 for 8 minutes, or until very lightly browned.
    Remove from cookie sheets at once with spatula.
    Cool completely on wire rack.
