Red Waldorf Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 oz. red food coloring (or 1 oz. coloring and 1 oz. water can be used)
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 1/2 c. cake flour
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.
    Add eggs and beat. Make a paste of coloring and cocoa and add to mixture.
    Add salt, milk, flour and vanilla alternately.
    Put vinegar and salt together and add to mixture last.
    Bake in two 9-inch pans at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
    Let cool, then split layers using thread in a sawing motion.
    While cake is baking, start making the frosting.
