Mrs. West Icebox Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. Crisco
    2 eggs
    3 c. flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
    Cream sugar, Crisco, eggs and vanilla.
    Then add the flour. (Mix soda and cream of tartar with 2 cups flour and roll the dates and nuts in 1 cup of flour).
    Make a stiff dough.
    Form into a roll and put on wax paper.
    Refrigerate 12 hours or you may drop from teaspoon onto cookie sheet.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
    Do not brown or they will be hard!
    If you like soft cookie, put a slice of bread into the cookie container.
    Makes 4 dozen small cookies.
