*Date And Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/2 c. flour (over dates to separate)
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. unsifted flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. boiling water
    1 Tbsp. margarine or butter
    1 c. sugar
    1 unbeaten egg
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Mix together floured dates, baking soda and boiling water; let cool.
    Mix separately margarine or butter, sugar and egg.
    To this mixture, add flour, salt, vanilla and chopped nuts.
    Lastly, add date mixture.
    Place in greased tube pan and bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 hour.
    When baked and cooled, place in plastic bag and allow to age for 3 weeks in the refrigerator.
    Serves 12 to 14.
