Thumbprints - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening (part butter)
    1/4 c. light brown sugar
    1 egg yolk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 beaten egg white
    3/4 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.
    Add flour and salt.
    Roll into 1-inch balls.
    Dip into beaten egg white. Roll into chopped nuts.
    Bake 1 inch apart on cookie sheet in 375\u00b0 oven for 5 minutes.
    Remove from oven and put thumbprint in. Return to oven and bake for 8 minutes.
    Fill print with icing or jelly.
    Makes 2 dozen.
