Buttermilk Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. self-rising flour
    1 c. self-rising corn meal
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. chopped onion
    1 egg, beaten
    2/4 c. buttermilk (add a little more if needed)
    vegetable oil
Preparation
    Combine first 7 ingredients; mix well.
    Carefully drop batter by level tablespoonful into deep, hot oil.
    Cook only a few at a time, turning once.
    Fry 3 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown.
    Drain well on paper towels.
    Yield: about 2 1/2 dozen.
