Turnip Au Gratin - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. fresh turnips (1 1/2 lb.)
    1 tsp. sugar
    4 Tbsp. margarine, divided
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 1/2 c. milk
    3/4 c. grated sharp cheese
    1/2 dry bread crumbs or Ritz crackers
Preparation
    Bring about 1/2-inch water to boil in a pan.
    Add turnips, sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
    Cover; cook until tender.
    Drain; remove and set aside.
    In saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons margarine. Blend in flour, pepper and remaining salt.
    Cook 1 minute.
    Remove and gradually stir in milk.
    Return to heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and thickens.
    Add cheese; stir until melted. Mix cheese sauce and turnips together.
    Put into baking dish. Melt remaining margarine; add bread crumbs. Sprinkle over turnips. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 minutes or until crumbs are toasted.
