Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. cucumber, 1/8 inch slices
    1 c. onion, 1/8 inch slices
    1 garlic clove
    2 Tbsp. salt (medium coarse)
    14 to 18 ice cubes
    1 c. cider vinegar
    1 c. cider vinegar
    1 c. water
    1 1/4 tsp. mustard seed
    3/4 tsp. celery seed
    1/2 tsp. turmeric
    3 1/2 tsp. liquid artificial sweetener
Preparation
    Combine cucumber, onion and garlic in large bowl.
    Sprinkle with salt; cover with ice cubes.
    Let stand overnight.
    Drain well. Combine remaining ingredients except liquid artificial sweetener in a 4-quart pan; add cucumber mixture.
    Bring to a boil.
    Cover and boil gently for two minutes.
    Stir in liquid artificial sweetener. Remove garlic clove.
    Spoon into sterile jars.
    Seal.
    Yield:
    5 cups.
    Carbohydrate 6 g, protein 1 g, fat 0 g, calories 28.
    One serving = 1/2 vegetable exchange.
