Mom'S Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. beef tips or stew beef, cut in small pieces
    1 can stewed tomatoes, cut up
    1 bag Success rice or 1 c. rice
    1/2 c. barley
    1 pkg. French onion soup mix
    1 can Bush's peas with snaps (use juice, too)
    salt to taste (about 2 Tbsp.)
    1 or 2 Idaho potatoes, cut up
Preparation
    Use 4-quart pot.
    Brown beef tips on high, stirring constantly, until they are light brown.
    Remove from heat.
    Add hot water until the pan is a little over half full.
    Add rest of ingredients except onion soup mix, then add more water to fill the pan about 3 inches from top.
    Bring to boil and then add onion soup mix.
    Turn heat to low and cover.
    Cook about 1 1/2 hours. May also be cooked in crock-pot for several hours.
