Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1/2 c. cold water
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. nuts (if desired)
    1/2 c. white syrup
    2 egg whites
    dash of salt
Preparation
    Place sugar, water and syrup over low fire and stir only until sugar is dissolved.
    Cook to soft ball stage.
    Beat egg whites 2 minutes at high speed and pour 1/2 of syrup mixture slowly over egg whites while beating and continue beating while returning syrup to stove and cook until cracks against cup when dropped in cold water.
    Add this to egg white mixture.
    Beat until it begins to lose gloss.
    Add vanilla, salt and nuts.
    Drop by spoonful on waxed paper.
