Sugar Cream Pie - cooking recipe

2 c. milk
1/2 c. margarine
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 baked (8 or 9-inch) pie shell
butter
nutmeg
Preparation

Combine milk and butter in medium saucepan.
Cook over low heat until butter is melted.
Remove from heat.
Combine sugar and cornstarch in small bowl.
Gradually stir in 1 cup warm milk mixture, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
Add cornstarch-milk mixture to remaining milk mixture in saucepan.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
Remove from heat; add vanilla.
Pour into pie shell.
Dot with butter and sprinkle with nutmeg.
Chill until firm.
