Sherry Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 egg yolks
    1/2 c. sherry
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 envelope gelatin
    1/3 c. milk
    4 egg whites
    1/2 pt. heavy whipping cream
    1 c. sugar
    1 small angel food cake
Preparation
    Beat egg yolks well.
    Add sherry and 1/2 cup sugar.
    Cook in double boiler until like custard.
    Soak gelatin in milk and stir into hot custard.
    Let cool.
    Whip egg whites stiff.
    Whip 1/2 pint cream into 1 cup sugar.
    Fold into custard.
    Crumble cake and place a layer of crumbs in bottom of a greased spring pan, alternating layers of cake and custard.
    Let stand in refrigerator 12 hours.
    Turn out and ice with 1/2 pint whipped cream.
