Poor Man'S Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. syrup
1 c. cold water
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 heaping Tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1 or 2 tsp. hot water
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Preparation

Place in a saucepan the syrup, cold water, salt, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring to a boil; cook 3 minutes. Add shortening and cool. Dissolve soda in hot water. Add to mixture in saucepan. Sift flour and baking powder together; stir into mixture. Pour into a greased tube pan. Bake 1 hour at 325\u00b0.
