Old Fashioned German Poppy Seed Cake - cooking recipe

3/4 c. milk
3/4 c. poppy seed
3/4 c. mayonnaise
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
4 egg whites
Preparation

Scald milk and pour over poppy seed.
Let stand 2 hours or overnight in refrigerator.
Cream mayonnaise and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add vanilla.
Sift flour and baking powder together. Add flour mixture and poppy seed mixture, alternately to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter.
Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
Bake at 350\u00b0 about 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
