Whiskey Cake - cooking recipe

1 lb. red candied cherries
1/2 lb. golden raisins
1 pt. whiskey
3/4 lb. butter
1 c. packed brown sugar
2 c. sugar
6 eggs, separated
5 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking powder
4 c. pecan halves
Preparation

Cut cherries in half.
Soak cherries and raisins in whiskey overnight.
Cream butter, brown sugar and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg yolks, beating well.
Add whiskey mixture and flour, reserving small amount of flour.
Add nutmeg and baking powder.
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Roll pecans in reserved flour and add to batter.
