Date And Nut Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 pkg. pitted dates (10 oz.)
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling water
4 Tbsp. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 2/3 c. flour
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nutmeats
Preparation

Quarter dates.
Add soda and pour on boiling water.
Cool. Cream shortening and add sugar until blended.
Add well beaten egg.
Sift flour once before measuring. Sift flour and salt together and add alternately with date mixture.
Add flavoring and nuts.
Use well-greased pan and bake in moderate oven 40 minutes.
