Rhubarb Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. diced rhubarb
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour (unsifted)
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    dash of salt
Preparation
    Mix rhubarb and 1/2 cup sugar; let stand.
    Cream together shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
    Add egg; beat.
    Put soda and vanilla in buttermilk.
    Sift together flour, cinnamon and salt. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
    Stir in rhubarb.
    Bake in greased 9 x 13-inch pan at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
    Serve with whipped cream topping.
