Gingersnaps - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/3 c. water
    1 Tbsp. dark corn syrup
    1 1/2 tsp. each: cinnamon, cloves and ginger
    1 tsp. ground cardamom (optional)
    2 1/2 c. flour mixed with 3/4 tsp. baking soda
    Icing (recipe follows, optional)
    colored sugar and whole or slivered almonds for decoration (optional)
Preparation
    Place butter and sugar in bowl.
    In small saucepan, bring water, corn syrup and spices to boil.
    Pour over butter and sugar; beat until well blended.
    Gradually stir in flour mixture until well blended and smooth.
    Wrap dough airtight; chill overnight.
