Mom'S Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 meaty beef bones
    1 qt. canned tomatoes
    4 carrots
    3 or 4 onions
    4 celery stalks
    oregano to taste
    basil to taste
    2 pinches of sugar
    salt and pepper to taste
    1/2 c. barley
    water to cover bones by 2 inches
Preparation
    Sear the meat in the kettle.
    Add the remaining ingredients except the barley.
    Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or longer.
    Add the barley and cook 45 minutes longer. Serve with fresh bread or biscuits and a light fruited Jell-O for dessert.
