Original Kentucky Whiskey Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

5 c. flour, sifted before measuring
1 c. brown sugar
1 pt. (16 oz.) bourbon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking powder
2 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 lb. butter
6 eggs, beaten
1 lb. candied cherries, cut in halves
1 lb. shelled pecans, halved
1/2 lb. golden raisins, cut in halves, or 1/2 lb. dates, cut in half
Preparation

Soak cherries and raisins or dates in bourbon overnight. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg yolks and beat well. Add soaked fruit and remaining liquid and the flour (reserving a small amount of nuts); add to butter-egg yolk mixture.
Add nutmeg and baking powder.
Fold into beaten egg whites.
Add lightly floured nuts last.
Bake in a large greased tube pan lined with greased paper for 3 to 4 hours in a slow 250\u00b0 or 275\u00b0 oven.
