Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dried navy beans
    1 (about 1 lb.) ham bone
    1/2 c. mashed potatoes
    3 c. chopped celery
    3 c. chopped onion
    1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
    1 clove garlic, minced
    2 tsp. salt (optional)
    pepper to taste
Preparation
    Sort and wash beans.
    Place in a large pot.
    Cover with water and soak overnight.
    Drain beans and rinse.
    Cover with water and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 1 hour.
    Add remaining ingredients.
    Simmer until beans are tender.
