Ingredients

1 cake compressed yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
3/4 c. milk, scalded, then cooled to lukewarm
4 c. sifted flour
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/2 c. melted and cooled shortening
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Soften yeast in warm water; stir and add to cooled milk.
Add one-half of flour and 2 tablespoons of the sugar.
Cover and let rise in a warm place, about 1/2 hour.
