Caramel Filling - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. water
    1 c. milk
    1/8 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Put 1/2 cup sugar in a dry skillet.
    Heat until golden brown. Add water and cook until sugar is melted and forms a thin syrup. Combine with remaining ingredients in a large saucepan.
    Boil rapidly to the soft ball stage. Remove from heat.
    Place saucepan in a pan of cold water and beat until thick and creamy. Add vanilla. Will frost one 3 layer cake.
