Ingredients

1 c. margarine or butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
5 c. flour
1 tsp. anise extract
3 tsp. anise seed
1/2 c. walnuts
Preparation

Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs 1 at a time. Mix in extract and anise seed. Add dry ingredients and blend well. Add nuts. The dough will be very stiff. Divide dough in half and form each into a thick log the length of a large cookie sheet. Flatten and pat into shape. Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for approximately 30 minutes, until light golden brown. Cool slightly and slice into 1/2-inch cookies. Return to oven and toast on side if you prefer a crisper biscotti.
